SFP has taken initiatives to impart knowledge and skills in Forensic Psychology that can stimulate their understanding of crime, punishment, and the legal and psychological ramifications to perform a variety of meaningful roles in the Indian criminal justice system. SFP strives to develop cutting-edge practices through advanced forensic psychological research and its application to professional practice. SFP houses a state-of-the-art laboratory that is dedicated to the scientific advancements in criminal investigation and offers hands-on-experience to both students and professionals in utilising and mastering different advanced equipment. The unique Neurocognitive-Electrophysiology laboratory is equipped with advanced equipment viz., Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature (BEOS) Profiling, Suspect Detection System (SDS), Eye Tracker, Polygraph, 128- & 64- Channel Electrophysiological Recorders and Analyzer, functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS), Layered Voice Analysis (LVA), Brain Function Therapy (BFT), Neurofeedback and more than 250 Test Batteries. The School of Forensic Psychology offers different Forensic Psychology degree programmes that cater to the aspirations and career goals of the students. The degree programmes include Master’s and doctorate programmes, viz. Ph.D. and M.Phil. (Forensic Psychology), M.Sc. (Forensic Psychology) and M.A. (Criminology with specialisation in Forensic Psychology). SFP also offers a short-term course in Post-Graduate Diploma in Cyberpsychology (PGDC). The School has come a long way to boast of an academic par excellence within the country. SFP has now postured in a way to train students of Forensic Psychology to become professionals and to create a knowledge base that would be powered through rigorous scholarship and research to make a positive impact in the society. With an innovative pedagogical approach, SFP inspires and provides opportunities to students to expand their understanding of crime, criminals and the justice system at large and how they can meaningfully contribute to the betterment of a society. Students obtain practical experience through internship opportunities in government and non-governmental agencies such as, Directorate of Forensic Science, Gandhinagar; Bureau of Police Research and Development, New Delhi; Hospital for Mental Health, Ahmedabad; Anti-Corruption Bureau, Ahmedabad; Legal Aid Centre, Ahmedabad; Jeevan Aastha Suicide Prevention and Mental Healthcare Helpline, Gandhinagar; Juvenile homes in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad to name a few. The students who have passed out have found placements again in State/Central government, non-governmental agencies and are pursuing higher studies in India and abroad.
